Review of Valladolid’s Chichen Itza and cenote tour, with Mayan culture, buffet lunch, swimming stops, costs, timing, and practical advice.

“Unorganised chaos. 3 cenotes (only took us to 1)/ mayan village / buffet / chichen itza Joined a bigger group at the mayan gift store. They only took us to 1 cenote which had the buffet basically a water park. Lifejackets and lockers are additional charge at 100mxn each. Buffet was horrible, worst tacos we had in mexico. Cenote was nice but only one hour. Mayan village is the tour operators gift store. Overpriced and unnecessary, basically built to milk tourists of their money selling souvenirs at 5x the price they will find at the next stop. Chichen itza was good because of the english speaking guide. This is why…”

Basically we were served a plate of five tastings each and given a booklet with information about each of the mezcals available. There wasn’t any personal explanation or serving of each drink. Definitely not a guided experience. It would have been really nice to have each of the tastings labeled so at least I knew which page to read about as I sipped. (We were of course told the names of each five when served but forgot as we drank and chatted). The process was not interactive, there was no…”
